It has been exciting watching entries come in over the past several weeks. The very diverse fleet now boasts over 140 entries, and we know other shy boats are planning to enter soon.

Perhaps the biggest news from the organizers this month is that we recently amended the Notice of Race to add ORC classes in response to several requests from both existing and potential entries. Amendment No. 3 and the Amended Notice of Race are available through YachtScoring. Boats with either ORCi or ORC Club certificates are eligible for the ORC classes. This will be ORC's first appearance at Block Island Race Week and promises to provide sailors a new opportunity to see it used.

There are two other upcoming opportunities to help you prepare for race week. First up, on May 20, 2017, the Storm Trysail Foundation puts on its Safety at Sea Seminar at SUNY Maritime in the Bronx. Not only are there are valuable lessons to be learned and refreshed there, but you can also earn a certificate suitable for the new requirements for the 2018 Newport Bermuda Race.

Practice, practice, practice -- even in distance mode. Enter the Storm Trysail Club's annual Block Island Race, an 183 NM jaunt from Stamford, around Block Island and back in time for a party at Stamford Yacht Club and your neighbor's Memorial Day BBQ. The race starts off Stamford on the afternoon of May 26, 2017. Enter on YachtScoring.com.

Finally, as you make your plans for this June, don't forget to keep check out this website for local information, including a list of agencies with rental homes.

We look forward to seeing you on Block Island.

The 2017 summer sailing season is about to begin and, to many of us, that means Block Island Race Week.

As we look forward to our week on Block Island this June, we need to keep in mind the hospitality the Island’s residents have extended to our sailors regatta after regatta. Starting with BIRW XVIII in 2001, the Storm Trysail Club’s BIRW Raffles have generated over $100,000 that has been directed to the services and charities serving the Island and its residents.

Plus One crew limit removed from Performance Cruising Division

LARCHMONT, NY - The Notice of Race for the Storm Trysail Club's Block Island Race Week, set for June 18-23, 2017, has been amended.

The most significant change with this amendment is that the Plus One crew limit has been separated from the Performance Cruising classes.

Upwards of nine classes plan to host championship in conjunction with longstanding regatta

LARCHMONT, NY - The Storm Trysail Club's Block Island Race Week, the granddaddy of the club's broad regatta portfolio, is scheduled June 18-23, 2017. Coinciding with the announcement is the launch of a new event website at blockislandraceweek.com, where links to register and the Notice of Race are available.

Founded in 1965 and heading for its 27th running, the Storm Trysail Club's Block Island Race Week is a great biennial tradition of New England summers and one of the oldest race weeks in the U.S.

Racing on Block Island Sound in late June, as the season changes from spring to summer, often brings ideal conditions, with a gentle breeze in the morning building to a challenging seabreeze in the afternoon. Many who sailed the regatta in 2015 completed 11 races over five days, including a gearbustin' Around Block Island Race, amid some of the finest weather ever to grace the regatta.
